I think all pitchers & other players need to respect each other. Violence against others is a major problem in our world today.

HAPPY BASEBALL WATCHING ALL!

I agree, but Jose didn’t have to take it that far. I don’t think the catcher signed for him to hit him with a pitch. He should have left the bat behind. But maybe this will be a lesson to other pitchers who think retaliating because you got homered on is okay, because it’s not.

Quit your crying its as much a part of the game as fighting is in hockey.

I’ve been thrown at for hitting a homer, it didn’t phase me I look at it as a free pass.

ACTUALLY it is part of the game, it is dangerous and scary at times but it is still part of the game, former and current coaches and players agree. It’s usually done to protect your hitters not to injure theirs. I pitched in summer leagues and I hit there too. If my guy got plunked I’d plunk em right back if we felt it was intentional. There’s nothing illegal about a brush back pitch, if you hit someone they get the base. There’s a difference of throwing at someone and trying to hurt/kill someone. Getting your gun? How about getting a therapist? Might be more useful.

Get a life! Pitchers should throw at batters who crowd the plate – it HAS always been part of baseball. The hitters have way too many unfair advantages now as it is! Do you want football scores in baseball?

Its still no excuse to use a bat as a weapon.

Can you prove the pitcher threw at him? Can you really? The manager said it was a slider, a slider is initially started at the batter if you want it to curve over the plate (same thing for a curveball) if the pitchers screws up on his release and hangs the pitch, bingo; instant hit batter, or wildpitch.

Also given the elevation of the hit, roughly mid leg according to ESPN, makes it highly unlikely that the pitcher threw at the batter. Typically when a pitcher throws at a hitter he throws a 4-seam fastball straight for the batters largest area, his back/chest.

What on earth are you thinking. If a pitcher threw at anyone on the high school teams I played on we gladly took the beeaning and got a free baserunner; only one player on our team ever thought retaliating was smart and he never got his way thankfully.

"throw at me and you’d be lucky if i don’t go to my car and get my gun"

Please, don’t be rediculous, killing a man for throwing a ball at you, please. I hope you don’t actually own a gun if you are that given to violent outburst. Please for your own good get help with your anger before you wind up in prison doing 20 to life!

In short you can’t prove the pitcher threw at Offerman, but you sure can prove Offermen decided to assault the pitcher with a weapon; doing so on the street for being egged would get you arrested. Offermen should ahve walked down to first and helped build a rally for his team instead of getting angry like some little kid and throwing a tantrum in which he could have killed someone. Wooden bats are lethal weapons in the right hands, an minor league ball players definantly qualify in that respect. It’s wrong for pitchers to throw at batters, but worse to try and beat someone with a club.

I strongly disagree, batters have so much padding all over their body nowadays and sit on top of the plate it’s impossible for pitchers to come inside. Why don’t we just get rid of the pitchers and let everyone hit off a tee so the batters don’t complain.. ..I believe it is acceptable in some cases to purposely throw at a hitter, we saw it a week or so ago with a-rod being thrown at numerous times without reason in back to back games, and when Clemens retaliated against Alex Rios and he was punished, to me that was ridiculous absolutely nothing happened to the Jays when they instigated the whole thing, yes I know they threw at a-rod because of the pop fly incident but the jays are angry at the wrong guy, they should be throwing at their 3rd baseman for not catching the ball, he’s supposed to be a professional baseball player and he can’t catch a pop fly, simply ridiculous!

How do you know that Offerman was thrown at intentionally?? He was hit in the lower leg with the ball. Any pitcher that’s throwing at a batter is going for the torso or head, not the legs. Anyways, throwing at batters is part of the game – has been for a long time. It might not be a part of the game that’s good for the sport, but its part of the game nonetheless. If it wasn’t, you wouldn’t see pitchers throwing at batters, now would you. The pitchers get punished for it with ejections and suspensions. Taking a bat out to the mound is a cowardly move and could do a lot more physical harm to a person than a single ball hitting them.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Pitchers shouldn’t plunk hitters, but at the same time hitters shouldn’t be charging the mount with bat in hand either. There is a reason why this event is big news, it is because retaliation usually doesn’t happen like that. Most teams will retaliate by hitting the other club back, if they feel that the pitch was intentional. That is usually followed by the benches clearing and the umpire issuing warnings to both clubs apon which if another pitcher hits a batter he is ejected and so is his manager.

Most teams will police themselves on this issue in MLB because they don’t want to put men on base, and they don’t want their batters getting injured by retaliation.

Most players are smart enough not to bring a bat to the mound either.

I also remember a few years back Orioles where in Toronto, Jays had just given up the lead and Jeff Conine comes to bat. He gets drilled in the back, and turns RED in the face doing everything he can to maintain himself and take his base. Tony Batista comes up to bat next and hits a moonshot homerun, the guy who got drilled gets to touch homeplate. Retaliation in the form of game. Orioles went on to win the pitcher who hit Conine took the loss.

Anyway I agree that MLB could up it’s standards on pitchers throwing at batters, but Offerman is not justified for what he did.

Your attitude is sickening and alarming. You seem to applaud and admire his behavior. So do you mean to tell us that the next time someone ticks you off, you will feel that going after him with a ball bat is the right thing to do?????

If so, then all I can say is that I hope you enjoy your date with "Bubba", one that Mr. Offerman is currently having. LOL
